| The Open, legal sale of antique ivory in many European countries is covering up a trade in illegal and recently poached ivory, campaigners say.
Researchers from environmental group Avaaz brought 100 ivory items and had them radiocarbon dated at Oxford University.
3/4 were Modern ivory, being sold illegally as fake antiques.
Ivory from an elephant killed by Poachers as recently as 2010 was among the items passed off as being antique.
Quoted word for word from the BBC ceefax news section of their teletext service.
If anyone can put up a link please do.
And this has confirmed my worst fears. Whenever I see an antique show of any sort on the television and see them buying a ivory product that supposed to be from before 1947, I always say how can they be sure and I would definitely not buy any ivory products whatsoever.

|I don't care if they are legal or not, elephants should not be slaughtered just for the sake of making ivory trinkets.|

| @Sky, Thanks for the link.
I call for a Support for the out right ban on every Ivory product in the world. Only we the people can create a market of no demand.
I don't see what the craze is for such trinkets.

|All for the dollar these animals have to die for, the pleasure of owning something like that. It is sad when you see images of these animals dead in the wild because of poachers|

|They think they are fooling people saying the ivory is from before 1947! It said 74% were found to be from after 1947 - shame on these poachers and worse still are those who buy it!|
